Palpable fear and anxiety gripped residents of Sokoto State as some Arewa youths on rampage, attacked Igbo traders in the state on Sunday. The United Kingdom has asked the Federal Government to clarify the status and whereabouts of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. The British government said it had asked the government if the British national was alive or dead. However, it could not be immediately ascertained if the Federal Government had responded to the inquiries or not. Concerned lawyers in Onitsha, Anambra state have advised Igbo living in the North to adhere to the quit notice earlier issued by Northern youth coalition. The lawyers, led by Barr. Samuel Okechukwu, told newsmen in Onitsha, that Igbo people in the region should return home before October 1 whether the threat to their lives will be carried out or not. Others at the briefing were Messrs Chukwukelu, Ben Okoko and Maurice Efobi. The lawyers noted that there are comfortable homes in Igbo land that will accommodate sons and daughters of Ndigbo. They insisted that returning home was better than being in a land where their lives were subjected to risk. According to them, “threat of such nature which borders on the national security, lives and properties of free citizens of the country ought not to be taken for granted.” They further warned that Ndigbo must not allow events of 1966 to repeat.

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has blamed the Nigerian system for the rise of agitation by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in the South East. Okorocha said the country had relegated issues concerning women, youths to the background. Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Wednesday prayed the Abuja Federal High Court to order the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Tukur Buratai to produce his client, Kanu. Ejiofor’s prayer was contained in a suit he filed before the court, on Wednesday.The IPOB leader’s counsel, in the suit stated that Buratai was in the best position to produce Kanu in court. “We just filed an application for prerogative order of habeas corpus commanding the Chief of Army Staff to produce Nnamdi Kanu in court,” he told news men.
