The Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari should tell her what he did with its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, if he (Kanu) was no longer alive. The group had since an alleged attack on Kanu’s home on 14th September declared Kanu and his parents missing, insisting that they were abducted by soldiers who invaded his compound on the order of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai. IPOB said it fears that its leader and his parents may have been harmed while in the custody of the Nigerian Army. Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Wednesday prayed the Abuja Federal High Court to order the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Tukur Buratai to produce his client, Kanu. Ejiofor’s prayer was contained in a suit he filed before the court, on Wednesday.The IPOB leader’s counsel, in the suit stated that Buratai was in the best position to produce Kanu in court. “We just filed an application for prerogative order of habeas corpus commanding the Chief of Army Staff to produce Nnamdi Kanu in court,” he told news men.

“The fact is that they are in a position to produce him at the next adjourned date. It is public knowledge that my client had before his house was invaded, always made himself available for trial. “He never evaded trial as he made it known that he was ready. If he wanted to jump bail, he would have done so immediately he was released from prison. But he did not run.  “The last time I spoke with my client was the day his house was invaded by soldiers. He called me and complained that he was being attacked by soldiers who he said were shooting sporadically. since then, I have not heard from my client again. “If he is alive, they should tell the court on that day. They will not only explain to the trial court, but will also produce the soldiers that went to his home to attack him,"

Anambra Youth Movement, AYM, on Sunday said it would liaise with youths from other South-East states to shut down the region over the onslaught against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as well as refusal of Nigerian government to heed calls for restructuring. AYM coordinator, Christian Nwakaeze, in a statement in Awka, warned the government to release all detained members of IPOB, and dialogue with the group to ensure lasting peace in the country. He said while AYM was not calling for secession, it believed that a restructured Nigeria through a referendum would go a long way to making everybody understand why IPOB members were making their demands. The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET), a civil society group, has condemned the refusal of the United State government to recognise the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group. During the weekend, Rusell Brooks, spokesman for the American embassy in Nigeria, said his country would not categorise IPOB as a terrorist organisation. CESJET wondered why Rusell would make such comment when a “competent Nigerian court” has issued an order proscribing IPOB. “The assertion ignored the fact that Nigeria is a sovereign nation that does not need the approval of another country to contain terrorists’ threats within its borders,” he said. “The US embassy must note that Nigeria has every right to prevent known threats from growing same way the US placed travel ban on nationals of eight countries of the world to keep terrorists out of its territories despite the global outcry and international criticisms that did nothing to reverse the action. “CESJET ...
